Purplebricks prepares to expand into midlands

Purplebricks.com is getting set to expand into the midlands after launching in the south-east in April.

It is listing 12 areas where it is now looking for ‘Local Property Experts’:

North Birmingham

South Birmingham

Derby

Nottingham

Worcester & Hereford

Dudley & Wolverhampton

Oxfordshire North

Loughborough, Grantham & Melton Mowbray

Walsall & Stafford

Leicester

Coventry

Telford & Shrewsbury

On the recruitment site ‘indeed’, Purplebricks is altogether listing 13 vacancies for agents, including on the Isle of Wight.

The positions are all self-employed. Purplebricks.com specifies three years or more of industry experience.

Purplebricks.com is the brainchild of brothers Michael and Kenny Bruce, who owned estate agency Burchell Edwards before its sale to Connells.

It is backed by former Capita boss Paul Pindar and utilises a call centre in Southend.

Purplebricks.com currently lists 511 properties on Rightmove, of which 313 are available.

A spokesperson said: “Purplebricks launched in the Meridian region earlier this year and after a very successful launch we will later this year be launching in the Central region.”

The regions refer to TV coverage, with the company investing in television advertising.

What self respecting agent with three years experience would want a self employed role with an internet company?
I also add in the region I work the "Employed" agents in my opinion have are the dregs of the industry. Agents that have bounced from one company to another and have little ambition, knowledge or work ethic. As soon as I saw the calibre of individuals they were employing any worries I had were put to bed. they must have recruit 6 – 10 of the worse estate agents around.

How much do they pay?……from the figures it seems like an easy job. 313 out of 511 available!!! I have checked what they are offering in the areas I am familiar with and they are, without doubt, in my opinion way overpriced. So all their agents have to do is say that they can get 10-20% more for their house than high street agents and tell the vendors that the can save £1000s on fees….simple, stress free job, or what?

From my understanding the "Employed" role is not a bad basic somewhere between £20,000 – £25,000 The "self employed" role seems to be around 50% of what the company receive. And you are spot on with the overvaluing. I the agents they have employed in my region were well known for it. Only way they could win instructions!

Aaah the self employed, burn and fire syndrome. Just another fly in the ointment. Living off the back of some poor unsuspecting sole duped into believing they will earn millions? If their model is that good they should employ.

Hardly surprising that the Bruce brothers want to open up in their old Cornerstone/Burchell Edwards/JKM stomping ground, is it?

Most ironic thing is that they are now going head-to-head with their old stablemate, Mr Hill – the OTHER bloke running around like a chuffless chicken bleating about "disrupting" the Estate Agency profession.

Sad, really – that "disruption" seems to be the in-thought – rather than just making what IS ALREADY THERE work better for all…
