Property Tribes, an online community for landlords and property investors, has announced that it has secured six-figure private investor funding.
The funding has come from Martin Skinner of Inspired Asset Management.
Skinner made headlines in January after taking out the world’s biggest-ever peer-to-peer loan of £4.1m for a development in Croydon.
The loan, from 300 LendInvest members, was to fund the conversion of a high street property into 111 flats, to be sold to first-time buyers.
LendInvest, which specialises in short-term buy-to-let mortgages, last week announced it has completed over £100m of investment since launch in May 2013.
Its investors are currently making £1m available per week on the LendInvest platform, with returns averaging 8.15%.
Skinner, who successfully repaid his own loan in July, has been a Property Tribes member for some time.
Nick Tadd, co-founder of Property Tribes, said: “We are delighted to have Martin on board, not only as an investor but as a mentor. His insight into the business route we have taken will be invaluable.
“He also understands and shares the values and ethics of the Property Tribes community.
“Martin is also extremely well connected and has already made introductions to major players in the tech and property arenas.
“The new investment will enable Property Tribes to grow, as we now have the means to accelerate our mission.
“Five years ago, my wife Vanessa and I founded Property Tribes to ensure that the landlord community had access to impartial and independent information in a transparent environment.
“Our belief was that this would empower landlords and property investors in making wise investment choices and support them in running a profitable, compliant and ethical landlord business.
“This funding and input from Martin will now allow that original vision to be fully realised and we are very excited about what the future holds.”
Skinner said: “Nick, Vanessa and the Property Tribes community have been so supportive over the years, and indeed pivotal in my own progression as an investor, developer and landlord, that I leapt at the opportunity to invest in them.
“The philosophy behind the community and the way it is run is truly inspiring and I can’t wait to be a part of its future.”
