Police appeal for public to help track down fake estate agent

Cheshire Police is appealing for information after a fake estate agent knocked on a man’s door and asked to take photos inside his home.

A resident was left feeling worried after a man claiming to be an estate agent attempted to enter the property.

The unknown man knocked at the door of the property on James Atkinson Way, in Crewe, on Friday 18 June.

The police told the press that the man, who had dark hair and was wearing shirt and shorts, claimed to be an estate agent and asked to take pictures inside the address.

However, when the owner of the property told the man his home was not for sale and asked for some identification, the bogus agent left the address.

Cheshire Police say no arrests have been made.

A spokesman said: “On Friday 18 June a local PCSO was approached by a concerned member of the public who reported possible suspicious activity.

“The man reported that at sometime on Friday 18 June an unknown man had knocked at the door of a home on James Atkinson Way.

“The man, who had dark hair and was wearing a shirt and shorts, claimed to be an estate agent and asked to take pictures inside the address.

“The resident told the man his home was not for sale and asked for identification – at which point the man left the address.

“No arrests have been made.”

Anyone looking to report any suspicious activity is asked to call Cheshire police on 101.

The suspect was wearing a shirt and shorts? The victim quickly realised that if the suspect wasn’t wearing a suit and waistcoat, and wasn’t also clutching a small leather man-bag, that he couldn’t possibly be a genuine estate agent.

OK – which agent is going to own up and admit they got the wrong address ?

It probably was an agent fitting it in around doing the garden, I mean working from home, hence the shorts.
