Will Mo Farah be getting his running boots on now that Yopa has a new advertising agency?
We don’t have the inside track on that but we do know that the new agency, called Mother, has been hired to come up with a new ‘creative positioning’ for the online agent.
It has been recruited by Yopa’s new chief marketing officer, Pip Heywood, who joined from MoneySupermarket which used to use Mother.
Mo Farah, the much-loved athlete who lives in America, is currently the face of Yopa, as in ‘Have you got a Mo?’
There was also the TV advert featuring a fifties sitcom family which earlier this year promoted Yopa’s no sale, no fee deal. Critics described it as toe-curling.
You might also recall a troupe of Village People emphasising the somewhat tenuous connection between YMCA and YOPA.
In the beginning, Yopa promoted itself via a lot of estate agents’ boards that were apparently marching on their way out.
Then, just over a year ago, there was the ‘Seriously, why not?” series of adverts which featured people who would like to have sold their home through Yopa but couldn’t because, for example, they had been entombed in ice for the last 80 years. Well, you know what it’s like.
If the new agency does come up with a different campaign, we reckon this will be the fifth set of creatives since Yopa launched in 2015.
But then Yopa – which still uses “Seriously, why not?” as its slogan, although critics say it could as easily apply to choosing sausages as estate agents – now has more money to spend, having in recent weeks received a further £20m injection of cash to ‘gatecrash’ the online market.
Heywood said: “Yopa was born out of innovation and we are very proud of our credentials as a successful disruptor in the estate agency space.
“As such, the appointment of Mother, a recognised disruptor within its own field, as our creative partner dovetails our existing work – challenging industry norms and promoting change in favour of customers.”
We suspect that the real brief for the new agency is to come up with the mother of all inventions.
Seriously, why not?
Yopa have no hopa!

Like with all ‘disrupters’ within our industry, the lack of consistency and continual chopping and changing of direction with pretty much everything with this outfit doesn’t just speak volumes to the public – it chuffin’ screams at them.
Seems to me that the only consistency is the prefix ‘IN’…
….the INconsistency of their service,
…the INability to perform,
…the INevitable that their model is failing, and
…the INdustry picking up the pieces and shouldering the resultant damage to its’ reputation.
