Marathons, mud and fisticuffs — what agents are prepared to do to raise money for charity

You have to be pretty tough to work in estate agency, and we’re not talking about the day job.

Just look at the lengths agents are prepared to go to in order to raise money for charity.

First off, the Fine & Country Foundation is looking for participants to raise money for homeless charities in the UK and overseas by taking part in 12 marathons in 12 months.

You can compete with, or against, Emma Preston, regional manager of Fine & Country parent firm GPEA, who will begin her adventure in Brighton in April 2018 and complete her final marathon in March 2019.

She is aiming to raise £1,000 per marathon and runners can join in all or some of the events.

Put off by the distances involved in running multiple marathons?

Not to worry. Agents Giving has the answer for you: a 7km obstacle race.

There is one slight drawback though. There will be a great deal of mud.

The clue is in the name — the 2018 Love Mud Challenge.

It will be held on Sunday, May 20, in a “secret bunker estate” in Brentwood, Essex.

It’s designed to test all levels of fitness so anyone can take part in the paced, punishing course.

Obstacles include ziplines, 120m gorilla bars and the not-at-all-scary-sounding “death slide”.

Training for the event is required, minimum age to take part is 13 years old, fees are £1,000 per team of four or £250 for individuals which includes entry fees and your fundraising for Agents Giving.

Last but not least, campaign group Landlord Action is on the lookout for aspiring Frank Brunos or Anthony Joshuas to join the next ‘Rumble with the Agents’ charity event.

The white-collar boxing event was set up in 2015 by Landlord Action founder Paul Shamplina and has raised more than £58,000 so far.

Agents are being invited to don their gloves and sign up for this year’s event to raise money for the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care charity.

The evening will consist of five fights with three two-minute rounds each, a three-course meal with unlimited drinks, an auction and raffle.

Special guests already confirmed for the evening include ex-professional European champion boxer Spencer Oliver and EastEnders actor Jake Wood.

Participants don’t need any previous experience as a fully structured and supervised boxing training regime will be provided by BOXR in north London, which emerged from a gym where boxing champions such as Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora learnt their craft.

The event takes place on Thursday, May 24, in London.

To find out more, or volunteer, buy tickets or donate something for the auction, email Rita Shamplina on info@rumblewiththeagents.co.uk

Raising money for the charity is the best thing that one can give back to the society. According to me,  charity is service to god and I also feel that helping poor and needy is also a great service to god. Along with praying for poor people, we can also help them by going on a mission humanitaire (http://www.mission-humanitaire-afrique.org), which will help to make a difference in the life of less fortunate ones.
