Manning Stainton backs Boomin despite ‘caution and scepticism’

The latest announcement, as part of the continued drip feed of founder members by Boomin, is that highly regarded agents in the north of England, Manning Stainton and Farrell Heyworth, have signed up to the new platform.

Mark Manning

They join a growing number of agencies choosing to support Boomin, despite the fact that it is not yet known when the new portal, which was scheduled to launch earlier this month, will go live.

It has been suggested that the still-to-launch portal has not had the take up of agents they were hoping for, and it would appear, based on many of the comments posted on EYE, that a significant number of agents are unlikely to ever list properties with Boomin.

Mark Manning, managing director of Manning Stainton, admits that he too was initially “very sceptical of the Boomin proposition”.

“[We] approached it with a high degree of caution and scepticism,” he said. “Whilst I did not know the Bruce brothers personally I decided to take the time to listen and evaluate the business on its merits, knowing at least that the founders had previously achieved a high degree of success and if replicated with Boomin could benefit our customers, our people and our business.”

Having seen the Boomin presentation and spoken with Michael Bruce, founder and managing director, he says that he is now more “confident” in the new platform.

He added: “As a user of three portals at the moment, I can confidently say that the Boomin platform is very different and highly innovative for customers and agents. Creating a relationship with customers that extends beyond any transaction and building a platform which is revenue generating for agents is ground breaking and lies at the very heart of the business.”

As a founder agent, Manning will be putting himself forward to be part of Boomin’s Residential Board.

He continued: “We think it is important to take advantage of the opportunity for us agents to have a real voice and input into the future direction of Boomin and to ensure it makes good on its promises.”

Initially sceptical, but having spoken to Michael Bruce and been invited to join Boomin’s residential board…..

Wow MB must have really done a good job on you Mark. What is immediately noticeable is they are a very slick pair the two brothers, will give them that. Exceptional in fact, very clever business men.

Remember the mass exodus of agents seeking a better career rushing to qualify as DEA’s? Then we had agents moving over to become an online agent or to join PB chasing the promised land. Now we seem to have a splurge of ex-agents who are tech savvy attempting to get a slice of the portal market.

How many portals does the market actually need?

Why is it so important to be on so many portals, surely just one maybe two, but four feels a bit over the top…..

Serious question to anyone on here who has signed up:

What is the benefit of giving Boomin your valuation data?

What is the benefit in allowing potential buyers to this these potential listings?

What is the danger of both of the above?

PS – Here’s a boomin great offer, and FREE, but could make you money.

I offer anyone on here, my email address to send me your list of valuations done and Hot Buyers list… The service is FREE of charge send us the data and we will do the rest. PS we will send you a referral fee if we do a deal with any of them. No lengthy contracts and know an experienced like minded EA will be just trying to use the two components to make you a referral fee.

I actually want the Bruce Brothers to come and work their magic on me.
Every year I say never again to the chap who brings in the out of date charity tuck shop box for us to display in the office and every year, it sits in my office as we all eat the contents…
So they should have a pretty easy job with me…
I am also a OTM Gold Member which is another good sign for them.
I am an open book from this minute forward… come convert me

The portal market looks to becoming increasingly fractured and I really don’t see how the customer benefits from all these sites and why they would visit more than 1?
Just looks like more money for agents to pay each month to get the same lead that would have come through 1 or 2 national portals previously?

    Or am I missing something?

You are not missing anything. The public do not want to be chasing around another portals. They only way you will get the public to turn to Boomin is if they get them to move way from the top 3, RM, Z and OTM. People need to remember who these portals are, the clout and agents that support them and will never move over to Boomin. Boomin is not free, it is a paid to advertise site that wants to cross sell your data and perfectly set-up to switch to a private sellers site in the future.

The public will not thank an agent that makes them chase another web site AND if all properties are alraedy on one of the other sites … why would they need to look any further.

Think junk mail, what does it conjour up? Will Boomin be the new breed of Junk Mail that could reflect on agents?

The only people who say Boomin is needed is the Bruce brothers, this is nothing but a commercial venture into a market that has been flooded with portals and the majority have all failed over decades. The public have not asked for yet another portal, it is sold to agents that you need it, really! Ask the public for their response

The biggest question that Boomin have not answered, they need your data to be a success ……..

What GUARANTEE do agents have that once they have used your data to be established, they will NOT then turn it into a for sale by private sellers site.

REMEMBER ‘COMMISSARY’ and all the not nice things the Bruce’s said about the high street industry for many years and now you trust what they say. Big difference to what a person actually says to hook you and then goes and does!!!!!!

I would say the biggest risk of Boomin would be launching a team of their own LPEs (PB 2.0) in a similar way to Zillow are doing right now.

In the Boomin website FAQs the Bruces try to combat the private seller objection. MB tries to bat the objection away by saying agents will always be in front of the seller. Who’s agent though? Watch the video and see what you make of it. I think the grand plan is the Zillow route eventually.

Has this all come about because agents are sick of RM and want an alternative? the Boomin rep keeps calling me and will not answer my question he’s says it would be illegal to tell me which agents in my area have joined.. derr that’s means none!  He did Say how good they are and that they will overtake Rightmove.. bunch of dreamer.
