More than half of overseas landlords using a tenancy deposit protection scheme are based in Europe, while four in ten are in Australia.
Altogether 3,095 landlords based overseas use the Deposit Protection Scheme.
While the number represents just 0.72% of the 428,093 total, some 16% have registered more than one property with DPS.
Malaysian landlords have the highest average number of properties each, with an average of over four.
Analysis shows that the top ten countries for landlords based overseas are: France, Australia, USA, Spain, Ireland, Hong Kong, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates.
Despite their reputations for property investment in the UK, China and Russia are almost completely unrepresented in the landlord stakes, representing just 0.65% and 0.1% of the total number of overseas landlords.
* A story on Eye last week about tenancy deposit protection and what happens when landlords or tenants fail to submit dispute evidence led to some queries.
As reported, if a landlord fails to submit evidence within the 14-day deadline, the adjudication will automatically be in favour of the tenant.
We can now confirm that if the tenant does not supply their evidence, payment is made to the landlord/agent.
