To let: A property that is a football lover’s dream

An agent’s distinctive advert to let a unique multi-occupancy property in Southampton has delighted fans of the local football team and led to a visit from Sky TV.

The Southampton City branch of Martin & Co put up an advert in their shop frontage offering a let for £584 at “one of the most sought after spaces in Southampton”.

In fact, the advert is for a season ticket at St Mary’s, the home of Southampton FC, currently on course for their third consecutive top ten finish in the Barclays Premier League.

The advert lists the property features as having unrivalled views, unbeatable location, lots of natural views, high ceilings, a well-maintained lawn, and perfect for entertaining up to 31,750 guests, and has 19 live Premier games included.

Carol McCartney, who shared the picture on Twitter, said: “I think it’s a fabulous idea, very clever marketing!

“I don’t think any other club has done anything like this before. I saw the photo on a fan forum site that I’m in, and tweeted that it was seen in an estate agent’s window.”

Nigel Guppy, a sales director at the branch, said: “I can’t claim any credit for it. Southampton FC had some marketing guys come round and they wanted to promote season ticket sales.

“They asked if we would be happy putting it in our window and we would be put into a free draw on the last match day at the ground.

“I thought we should support the local club and I thought it was a clever idea because they wanted to get some exposure and it costs us nothing.

“We just have to put it in the window for six weeks. If we won the draw we would use it for commercial reasons to treat clients.”

Guppy quipped: “We think it represents better value than some other lettings in the area.”
