Hamptons looks to make hay from Londoners fleeing the capital for the country

More Londoners are looking to swap the hustle of the capital for the relative calm of a rural property.

Hamptons International research claims Londoners purchased 74,350 homes, worth £30bn, outside the capital last year, the highest value since 2007.

Its latest country roadshow showcased the benefits of moving or owning a second home in the countryside.

Events showing properties for sale in rural areas were held at Hamptons International’s Muswell Hill, Battersea, Chelsea and Richmond branches, complete with what the agent describes as flavours of the country such as bales of hay, balloons and Hamptons branded dog leads.

Lesley Cairns, managing director of Hamptons International, said: “We couldn’t be happier that our first bi-annual country roadshow of the year was such a resounding success.

“It was made all the more special by the fact it is Hamptons’ 150th birthday this year and, of course, our 150-year branded taxis made an appearance at the branches.

“Making the move from London to the country continues to be an attractive proposition for many, and having our country agents on hand to offer expert advice helps make the process much easier.”
