The England football team have already made history this summer, no matter how they fare against Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s team earned an extra-time winner when Harry Kane settled the scores against Denmark on a night of high-drama at Wembley as attentions now turn to the big one on Sunday night at 8pm.
Wednesday’s victory, thanks to Harry Kane’s winning goal, ended England’s 55-year wait to compete in a final at a major tournament.
The Three Lions’ only previous final appearance came at the 1966 World Cup, also on home soil, marking the one and only trophy the country has ever won.
If Southgate’s players are to win Euros when they return to Wembley on Sunday, they will need to beat an Italy side that have gone from missing out on the 2018 World Cup to making it to Euro 2020 final.
Italy have not lost a football match since September 2018 – that is an astonishing run of 33 unbeaten games. The Azzurri last lost a match in September 2018 against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
There were 60,000 fans inside Wembley to roar on Gareth Southgate’s men when they beat Denmark 2-1, and we all hope that England can go go one step further by winning their first ever European championship.
Can England go on to win Euro 2020? We certainly hope so!
Has it ever been home?
