Two former estate agents have launched a property-only social media platform and want industry professionals to abandon LinkedIn and Facebook.
Brothers Chris and David Tremlett have launched Gatha, a free networking app for people working in UK property and construction.
The founders argue that estate agents and other property professionals rely too heavily on mainstream social media platforms to promote their businesses.
In particular, they claim algorithms and paid advertising increasingly determine who sees industry content. As a result, smaller firms can struggle to compete for attention.
Gatha aims to offer an alternative by connecting estate agents, landlords, developers, investors and tradespeople through a dedicated network.
Unlike LinkedIn and Facebook, the platform organises content around users’ professional roles and geographical areas rather than follower numbers.
Consequently, the founders believe independent agents can reach relevant local audiences without paying to promote posts.
The app also features a jobs board that connects tradespeople and developers directly, without recruitment fees.
Meanwhile, a separate projects board allows users to advertise development opportunities and properties seeking investment. Categories include buy-to-let, HMOs and student accommodation.
In addition, members can contact each other through direct messaging.
Chris Tremlett, co-founder of Gatha, said: “David and I were estate agents. We know what it is to post about a property, a deal or a job and watch it disappear because you didn’t pay to boost it.
“LinkedIn and Facebook were never built for us. They were built to sell our attention to advertisers, and property has been paying for the privilege for years.”
He added: “This industry builds the country. It should not have to beg an algorithm to be heard.”
The brothers are also encouraging agents and other property professionals to join the platform. Membership is free.
Agents can access Gatha through the Apple App Store, Google Play or gatha.uk.
