Flatmates’ website receives over £750,000 in crowdfunding pledges – before it even launches campaign

A property start-up aimed at Generation Rent says it has received over £750,000 in pre-commitments in just 24 hours, ahead of its crowdfunding campaign.

Ideal Flatmate is due to launch its campaign in the coming weeks but is inviting potential backers to register their interest and the likely amount they would be prepared to invest.

Ideal Flatmate says on its Seedrs page: “We are on a mission to revolutionise the way people find and book shared accommodation.

“Rather than focusing only on helping sharers find a property, Ideal Flatmate uses an algorithm to recommend the most suitable flatmates, based on the answers to 20 scientifically researched questions about lifestyle and living habits.”

Ideal Flatmate was founded just over two years ago by Tom Gatzen and Rob Imonikhe. At the weekend, the website said it has almost 102,000 rooms available across the UK, with 11,000 listed in the previous seven days.

The business has not said exactly when its crowdfunding campaign will launch or how much money it will look to raise
