Estate agent hopes to top Christmas chart with charity World Cup song

An estate agent is hoping to score a Christmas number one with a football ditty he wrote to help his daughter get to sleep.

Marco Helliwell, who works at the Barnard Marcus Ealing branch, has recorded the World Cup-themed festive song, Coming Home for Christmas, under the name of The Half Timers and will be donating 100% of profits from sales to FareShare, a charity fighting hunger and tackling food waste in the UK.

The song contains lines such as “don’t you know that Santa’s English”, “throw your pints up in the air” and “bring it home just like a Lioness”.

Helliwell developed the song after his daughter Mila was born last year. Singing to the baby to sleep every night helped him practise his vocal range and hone the lyrics.

“It’s a lifelong goal for so many of us to see England lift the World Cup,” he said. “If I can bring some festive football cheer to the nation as we follow our amazing team to victory and help feed thousands of children along the way then hopefully I can show that to my daughter one day and make her proud.”

Coming Home for Christmas can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Deezer and all links on HearNow.
