eMoov launches second round of TV advertising

Online estate agent eMoov.co.uk is relaunching its TV ad campaign today across ITV and Sky.

The ad itself isn’t new, featuring Fred and Ted who sold with an online agent and a high street agent.

eMoov chief marketing officer and investor Sheraz Dar – who was formerly the marketing director of Primelocation and FindaProperty until the merger with Zoopla – said: “The online estate agency sector has become increasingly competitive in a short space of time.

“The latest round of investment will enable us to accelerate the phenomenal growth we have seen.

“The past week has seen our two busiest days since launch in terms of new properties we have listed for sale.

“Our campaign will run into June and we’re looking forward to taking on more instructions, supporting the growth we’re currently experiencing, at what is historically a busy time of year.

“Alongside this activity we are also doing some more regionally targeted campaigns.

“We have enjoyed a great deal of success in Cornwall of late, listing and selling a number of properties.

“So we thought whilst the sun was shining, we would head down west and make the most of it.”

The reference to Cornwall is thought to be in relation to an acrimonious Twitter confrontation between eMoov and Chris Woods, and nothing to do with Poldark.

Don’t get me wrong I quite like it when we have a laugh at Russell, however, in an attempt to be serious is the biggest challenge to the budget agents the full service sector, which they have made little or no impact on or each other? – Purple Bricks, Emoov, Hatched, House Simple and so on have no more than a thousand listings each, equivalent to 8 or 10 reasonably sized full service estate agency branches, at 500 quid a listing its not at lot………funny a sector that boasts about its online abilities is using an ancient advertising medium like TV, does anyone watch ads anymore, they never tell us about all the savvy online stuff they are doing

So, like cats in a bag they look like they need to scrap hard with each other, you need a lot of other people’s money to rinse through on TV ads in this game

We had 3 enquires last week from non agents regarding starting their own online agency, the small local agents will be the winners not the biggies blowing cash everywhere.

Trevor. Would you trust a mobile mechanic to fix your car who has no experience?

    Report
    1. Trevor Gillham

Well, there is not really too much to learn for agency, it’s all available online, i’ve done it so I know. Mechanics now simply plug the car into a diagnostics machine that tells them whats’ wrong, so yes I would take it to a mechanic who could do that rather than a main dealer.

IndAgent – trouble is someone or a few will, then when it goes wrong the fallout will probably destroy the business. Annoying thing is the learning curve initially while the failings are discovered.

Yes I agree Clarky46 but I was wondering how Trevor felt about encouraging people with no experience to start a business in an industry that clearly doesn’t suit individuals who have no track record.. Trevor – would you sell your home with an agent who has 0 years experience?

    Report
    1. Trevor Gillham

Again, yes I would because I would simply want it listed on Rightmove and handle the viewings and negotiations myself, remember I did this, I had zero experience and was the largest online agent within 12 months.

And now you flog website design to no hopers that, like you, think that all there is to estate agency is listing on a portal. With naive and simplistic view points like that why stop at estate agency, why not sell dentists websites, after all how much experience to take out a few teeth, or investments, its just stocks and shares, its really only a punt isn’t it.

You sound like you need to justify your prices!! It’s really not that hard, get over it RealAgent. Also, I would like to mention that many of our enquiries are from estate agents looking to go it alone. Please don’t compare estate agency to Dentistry which takes years of training and is very skilled.

Trevor, your naivety knows no bounds. I think it is always sad when somebody who has obviously got out of agency, thinking they know it all, make such ill informed comments. This is my 38th year and I am still learning and still loving it. I don’t think you should compare different jobs/skill sets but you are very off the mark when you basically imply good agents aren’t very skilled. Good traditional agents, up to speed with ALL the latest marketing techniques and are innovative in their approach will always out perform your cheap merchants. Hope your car keeps running.

Until emoov and all the other onlinies start to market themselves as better or as good as the full service agent…..instead of just cheaper the public will be slow to take up the offer. It’s quality not cost that has always won through in any business.

  7. Trevor Gillham

Agreed Wilko, if a company offers a quality service with a sensible fee they will succeed.

@wilko, you said ‘It’s quality not cost that has always won through in any business’ what about Lidl, Aldi, costcutter and Poundland etc?

    Report

Some people now think Lidl is quality! Likewise, Premier Inn offer both.

It’s a bit different but the same principle applies……I buy certain things from Aldi/Lidl that I have found to be the same quality/lower cost than other stores. But equally I’m not going to buy a saw or hammer that is a pound in poundland because it would not be the same quality as it’s more expensive counterparts like eg Stanley tools. Like I said same principles…..value for money is not necessarily the cheapest price.

I disagree. I think if people just want their house slapped on Rightmove and are happy to leave the rest to fate they will use one of the ‘big boys’.

The ultra low fee model won’t work on a local level.

    Report
  10. Trevor Gillham

Yes, I agree with you IndAgent, but some of those big boys are charging alot of money now, a local online agent or high street could list it on Rightmove for £0 then charge £750 or .5% or whatever when sold. Don’t you think?

But is the saving worth it? How much will they save? The economies of scale will always mean that the cheapest option will be the bigger companies. Who is going to answer the phones when he/she is out on appointments? On a day off? Attending the school play? Off sick?

    Report
    1. Trevor Gillham

Incorrect, the large companies pay Rightmove double the fee, instead of 600 they pay 1200, local companies keeping within their boundaries will pay the same as you. If you operate all over the UK you get stung!!

‘Who is going to answer the phones when he/she is out on appointments? On a day off? Attending the school play? Off sick?’ I can ask you the same, calls could divert to a mobile, who answers your phone at 7pm or Sunday? I’ve called many agents who never answer the phone so it’s pretty easy to outdo the competition.

Come on then – define “stung”!
