David Cox, the former chief executive of ARLA Propertymark, has agreed to join Rightmove next week in the newly-created role of legal & compliance director.
The long-standing former head of Propertymark’s lettings arm will be responsible for helping agents stay on top of compliance.
Cox, who left ARLA Propertymark in July, will aim to bolster Rightmove’s training programme, helping to ensure that agents signed up to the property website get up-to-date guidance on legislation changes in the industry.
Prior to joining ARLA in 2014, Cox was a senior policy officer at the National Landlords Association for five years.
Cox said: “For most of my career I’ve been helping the property industry with compliance to ensure agents are always operating at their very best. At this critical juncture for the industry, joining Rightmove enables me to take forward this work and continue supporting the agents we serve.”
As part of his new role, Cox will host a monthly webinar, starting on Tuesday 10th November at 10am, with a view to helping agents understand the latest changes in the industry.
The first webinar will cover the new national Covid tier system, the risk of referral fees being banned, and potential changes to Section 21.
Agents can sign up now by clicking here.
Dave Anderson, Rightmove’s head of estate agency, commented: “We’re excited to have David join us, as he has offered best-in-class help and guidance to agents over the years with the various changes in legislation that have come their way.
“With the abolition of Section 21 and agent regulation on the horizon, his legal knowledge and his experience of engaging with government will help us to deliver real-time updates and help for our members.”
That’s not exactly a surprise is it, David seemed to spend more time hosting webinars on Rightmove rather than delivering them to the Propertymark members anyway.

Am I terribly cynical or does that explain a great deal about ARLA’s lack of support from OTM?
Surely I must be mistaken in the view that members interests are far less than the importance of personal gain??
It will be interesting to see how long he lasts in the role, or how long this newly made up and vital role is actually needed!!

Congratulations David!
Should be fairly easy. You know the redress schemes so they’ll work with you and provide the CSV file they were asked for in 2015
Has Redress – yes = listing published
Has Redress -no = listing hidden…….. that will take care of the agents with no redress scheme
Has CMP – yes = listing published
Has CMP- no = listing hidden…. that’s the agents with no CMP sorted
Portaljuggling fairly much takes care of itself these days but I know someone who can help with that. (for nothing)
CPR compliance? material information displayed prior to viewings that’s really all you’ve got to do.
Good appointment Rightmove!

its all right detractors OTM and Zoopla can do it too and so can Boomin.
Not displaying listing from agents without redress or client money protection is the easiest way to force compliance on the industry.
As soon as an agents redress or CMP expires their listing cease to show!
Two API’s accessed by each adverising platform to control adverts showing is the most efficent way of policing the industry.
I’m not having a go at you personally just asking you do what you’re supposed to do

Looks to be a good fit for both sides. Keeping David’s knowledge and insights in the sector and available to a wide audience should also be good news for agents.

Good news for good agents, its a real blow for agents who don’t comply with the regulations that apply to the whole industry.
It might reignite the lack of CMP provision; serveral underwriters don’t provide CMP because of onerous requirements on what they were expected to underwrite, that’s effectively created a monopoly provision of CMP
