Safety in the workplace remains a major issue during the current lockdown, following the government’s decision to keep the housing market open for business.
A number of agents have posted comments on Property Industry Eye in recent days sharing their experiences, with some insisting that their workplace has not been made Covid-19 secure, while others are confident that their firm is sensibly adhering to Covid secure guidelines.
One agent has gone a step further and recorded a ‘video diary of working through the pandemic’, as part of daily Granada Reports on ITV News this week.
Stephen Groves, the director of Home Estate Agents in Urmston, Greater Manchester, highlights some of the challenges currently facing agents, as well as consumers.

After reading this article I thought the video was bound to be part of the daily campaign to close our sector. It isn’t.
It’s a 2 minute fly on the wall look at the practicalities of a local agent operating safely within COVID rules. An agent making a living and operating within the rules. Good on him.

This is really interesting and good on Stephen for diarising this – it seems like he runs a very tight ship and knows what he’s doing!
The guidance remains unclear though. As Stephen mentioned in the video, “the first 20 minutes was discussing their situation” but doesn’t guidance say that appointments should be 15-20 mins max and a 2nd visit is necessary if the appointment does not allow enough time.
Clearly he was staying safe, following the guidelines etc but all agents are working differently.
Just to clarify, I want the market to remain open. This is just my observation.
