Come along now! Final bids for brilliant Julian O’Dell portrait must come in today

The EYE auction for this brilliant original portrait of Mick Jagger, created by Julian O’Dell, closes at midnight tonight.

Since we launched the auction last Monday, EYE readers have pushed the bidding up to £300 – and every penny of the winning bid will go to cancer charity Macmillan.

Julian’s wife Caterina has cancer and so the charity is dear to their hearts in a very personal manner.

Since picking up his pencils again after a break of many years, talented Julian has raised nearly £7,000 for Macmillan from the sale of his pictures and we are delighted to see EYE readers doing their bit by bidding for this one.

£300 is a wonderful sum of money but as I sit here looking at the tastefully mounted and framed portrait I am thinking that to do it justice it really should achieve a figure starting with a ‘5’ at the very least.

It would grace any living room, study, office or boardroom and, you never know, in a few years Julian’s work may well be worth considerably more than now. What’s more, it is a genuinely uplifting picture. Mick’s smile will brighten anyone’s day – as it has brightened mine these past couple of weeks while it’s been sitting on my desk. I’ll be sorry to see it go.

So, on this last day of the auction and in the season of goodwill, we are appealing to the compassion and generosity of all EYE readers in asking that you dig deep and bid this picture up to a record-breaking sum. A charity that unfortunately could touch the lives of any of us will benefit from your kindness and you’ll have Mick Jagger on your wall forever.

Satisfaction all round, I’d say.
