Buy-to-let landlords beat a retreat from purchasing properties, say lenders

There were 29,100 new first-time buyer mortgages completed in September, up 1.6% annually but down from 33,300 in August.

Purchase approvals for home movers were up 1.8% annually to 29,050 but down from 33,610 the month before.

The figures are from trade body Finance UK, which shows the sharpest dip in buy-to-let purchase mortgages – 5,500 in September, 3.5% down from the same month last year.

So we know the number of applications for new BTL purchases are down.  I wonder what the figures are for BTL properties sold.  One thing’s for sure… if you need to rent then things are getting harder and harder.  The figures released by HMG at the end of June stating that 84,740 households (126,020 children) are in temporary accommodation must be well out of date.  Unfortunately they’re headed one way only.  Just like in Ireland when the Government there mucked around with the sector.
