Beat-the-strike auction sale brings in over £4m

A ‘strike beating’ auction that had to be brought forward a day successfully raised over £4m in sales.

Network Auctions’ July auction had been scheduled for the Thursday, but because of a strike called by London Underground drivers it was brought forward to Wednesday, July 8.

In total, 38 lots were offered and sales agreed on 29 at the sale, at Grosvenor House, London.

Network Auctions managing director Toby Limbrick said: “When we first learned of the strike on London Underground our hearts sank for a minute but we quickly made the decision to bring the auction forward 24 hours and we are delighted with the outcome.

“With bidding possible by telephone, internet and by proxy, there was always going to be no issue with buyers getting to bid but we were particularly pleased with the strong turnout of serious bidders present in the room.”

Network Auctions’ next auctions are in September with the London sale taking place on September 10 and the Birmingham sale on September 15. Lots are now being taken for inclusion in both sales
