Agents raise money for children’s hospices

Generous agents have been doing their bit for charity via a 23-mile sponsored cycle and a tandem skydive.

Staff at Romans estate agents raised £644 for the Alexander Devine children’s hospice during a 23-mile sponsored cycle along the River Thames.

The event, which took place on September 13, saw agents from Romans’ Burnham, Windsor and Maidenhead branches pedalling from Henley-on-Thames to Windsor.

Romans, which has been supporting the hospice in Berkshire for three years, has pledged to raise a total of £30,000 for the hospice this year.

The charity was set-up by parents John and Fiona Devine in memory of their eight-year-old son Alexander, who died after four years of treatment for a brain tumour.

It has been supported by Romans since being introduced to the business by Peter Kavanagh, managing director of Romans Professional Services.

Carl Atkinson, sales manager at Romans Windsor, said: “The cycle was a tougher challenge than first anticipated but a lot of fun nonetheless. The support from the local community has been amazing. Thank you to everyone that sponsored us.”

And on September 19 agents from Townends Estate Agents, part of Badger Holdings Ltd, which has offices in west and north-west London, Surrey, Middlesex and Hampshire, took part in a tandem skydive to help raise vital funds for Shooting Star Chase, a children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Members of staff jumped from altitudes of either 15,000ft or 10,000ft at the GoSkydive centre in Salisbury, Wiltshire, reaching speeds of up to 125mph, and with a freefall of about 30-60 seconds.

Tony Addinall, chairman of Badger Holdings, was one of the participants taking part. He said: “The whole day was incredible and I know everyone would do it all again tomorrow if they had the chance.”
