An estate agent has called for houses to be built on Green Belt, saying that “some of it is hideous”.
Patrick Bullick, who is the London region chairman of the NAEA, has issued his own “election manifesto” which includes calls for more new homes.
In it he says: “Have you ever been to the Green Belt? Some of it is hideous.
“I understand why the post-war Government tried to limit the sprawling growth of towns and cities, but this is an outmoded way to do it.
“I am not suggesting building on lovely meadows, or hacking down woodland, but there are many areas that could be expanded on, with new housing interwoven with woodland, parkland and amenity land.
“People appreciate an attractive local park and local football pitches, but rarely visit the Green Belt.”
Bullick, who runs Stanley Chelsea agents, told Eye: “There is a whole lot of Green Belt around Dartford and Swanley to the east of London which is simply nondescript farmland. The same applies to areas around Coulsdon in south London.”
In his manifesto, Bullick also calls for better broadband connections across the UK, better transport links, and an overhaul of property taxes.
In particular, he says that older people should be encouraged to move from homes which are too big for them, by making the process easier and cheaper. He says at the moment they are deterred by the “huge cost of selling and re-buying.”
Don't even think of it. It may not be pretty but the greenbelt is the lung of the city. I'm in Essex and it seems that London almost reaches the end of the Thames Estuary already. Please NO.

Has it occured to Mr Bullick that this 'nondescript farmland' could be where the food on his table comes from?
