Advertising watchdog resolves complaints against two agents

The advertising watchdog has informally resolved two complaints against estate agents.

One was Spicerhaart, which has had a number of run-ins with the Advertising Standards Authority in the past.

In the case, the complainant challenged whether an online claim for a property that stated “air con is available in the summer months” was misleading because, on renting, they found it was not available.

Spicerhaart told the Advertising Standards Authority that in future it would ensure the air conditioning was working before using the claim in its adverts.

The second complaint concerned estated agents Carringtons of Swindon, formerly known as Market Right.

An online claim stated that the firm had been “voted Swindon’s best estate agent”. The complainant said this was misleading because the award had been won in 2012.

The advertiser explained that the Market Right website had been left visible in error. It had not been closed down and the Carringtons website did not contain the claim.

The ASA reports on both cases today.
