Property of the Week: And it’s the best house on Rightmove (apparently)

Property of the Week – and we wonder whether this house might need a helping hand in the form of a few coats of restrained magnolia paint to get it shifted.

It has only been discovered by an enthusiastic local press over the last few days although we see it’s been on Rightmove since last August.

According to the agent’s particulars, it’s been hand-painted and improved over the last 30 years.

It has chandeliers, figurines, mirrors, statues, and gilt galore, not to mention floral insets, tigers and leopards plus cuddly toys and at least one Virgin Mary.

Comments have included “best house on Rightmove” (well, that’s what someone said) and “all in the best possible taste” (we made that one up).

OMG this is incredible – any advice offered on de-cluttering before putting on the market or perhaps professional photograpny?

Love the “boarder” of evergreen trees!

The details must have been written by the vendor surely?

Sometimes it is better not to know what goes on behind closed doors.

Clearly loved well maintained and cherised by its owner.  If it ain’t baroque don’t fix it.

I can picture a viewing if the vendor(s) is/are under the age of 70…

You get there, and after you have removed your shoes, the owner(s) dogs your every step, yakking away about how wonderful each suffocating room is.

Chances are that if you want to make an offer as you think you can do something with it once it’s been decluttered, if you even offer £5 less, the answer will be ‘no’ – because the vendor(s) loves the house so much and it’s value is therefore inflated in his/her/their mind(s).

Also there is a high chance of an attempt to gazzump if you ever get to the point of exchange.  Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve been in this business for so long, I’ve got a feel for the ones to avoid (and not because of the decor or clutter lol!).

If the vendor is 70+, it might not be such a nightmare to buy as the decor will be due to habit and passage of time, and not some warped sense of cool interior overlapping carpet decor haha.

    Great find!

My guess is the vendor is 80+ who dresses with glitter. Seen it so many times and if the price is right should have sold ages ago as long as the agent is doing the viewings and the Chiwawa’s are kept outside in the garden.

The sales details are a throw back to the same era as the house. Do nothing for todays market. Blimey it has power points, roses on the ceiling and how many times have I seen that child with the dog, someone made a fortune selling that print! Photography is hit and miss ….. if it doesn’t work, don’t use it. Far better have little to no internal pictures. This is a classic of trying too much, or more likely not thinking at all and the negative side of the coin using web portals ……….. Use enough information to attract a viewing and then sell the property. All to often agents go through the motions, over do things and wait for the buyers who are put off, when a helping nudge turns into a sale …. that is estate agency.

It is very, um, in your face. However, I am one of those people that can see past the decor and imagine what it could be like; although I know not all people are like that.

But I agree, there will either be around 6 Chi dogs running around or somewhere around 12 white Persian pedigree house cats somewhere.

I put a similar property on the market much to my reluctance. It didn’t sell…
