Police investigating after man thrown through estate agency window

Police are still investigating an incident after Staffordshire estate agent Whittaker and Biggs had its high street window smashed when a man was allegedly thrown through it.

The incident is believed to have taken place in the aftermath of England’s World Cup exit to Croatia last week.

A spokesman for the Leek-based agency told EYE they are still waiting for a new window to be fitted and are working with part of the frontage boarded up.

Staffordshire Police said the incident – which resulted in a man in his 20s being taken to hospital with cuts – was still being investigated.

A spokesman told EYE: “There was an altercation in the early hours of the morning after the England match last week. No arrests have been made and we are still asking for witnesses.”

Rachel Torr, associate partner at Whittaker and Biggs, told the Stoke Sentinel: “We’re not sure yet how much it will cost us but it’s not going to be cheap. I found out when someone tagged me in a post on Facebook at 7.30am.

“It wasn’t the nicest thing to wake up to. We’re gutted really. We assume it is something to do with England losing the football. From the looks of it someone has fallen through the window.

“Nothing like that has ever happened before. Nothing appears to have been taken so we understand it to be a random act of violence.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service told EYE: “We attended to reports that a man had been thrown through a shop window.

“A man in his 20s was treated for a number of cuts and taken to hospital.”

The victim’s condition is not known.
