Online agent eMoov is offering a free sandwich to first-time buyers who complete on any property this week in the latest backlash against Strutt & Parker’s controversial tips for millennials to get on the housing ladder.
Strutt & Parker caused controversy after suggesting young first-time buyers could save money for their mortgage deposit by cutting out regular extravagant spending such as the lunchtime sandwiches or holidays.
The research has since been removed but eMoov is reigniting the debate by offering a Starbucks gift card for a free sandwich for any first-time buyers moving into their own home between November 14 and 17.
The offer is available to the first 300 applicants who respond by December 10 and proof of completion will need to be provided.
Russell Quirk, founder of eMoov, said: “Although the research has been met with a degree of scepticism, particularly among those at which it was aimed, we feel sorry for all those property buyers that have gone without their lunchtime sandwich fix for the last five years, just to get that first foot on the ladder.
“So, we’re offering a free £5 gift card to first-time buyers completing on a property purchase this week so they can get themselves a complimentary sandwich.”
How ‘Quirky’?
Why not offer those many customers of emoov who paid £100s upfront for a service that did not complete a sandwich as it is likely that many of these may have had to pay two agency fees?
Or are they likely to choke on such an offering?
Very poor point scoring opportunity.
Offering the choice of no sale, no charge was so much better.

A 4 day window to qualify for a sandwich which will most likely cost him a fiver!
not a bad costing for another piece of advertising.

This has to be one of the worst opportunist adverts ever.
“Free sarnie with every house purchase”
Limited to 300 – I doubt they will get more that 20 genuine claims.
How pathetic.

I love that 5 years worth of no sandwiches mean £5 towards a sandwich, could have thought better like £7,000 to one lucky first time buyers purchase to make up for all those lost sandwich purchases!
