Rental growth was flat across Great Britain during September, kept down by lower increases in London, north England and Yorkshire & Humber.
ONS data shows private rental prices rose 1.6% in the 12 months to September, the same as previously reported in August.
In England, private rental prices grew by 1.6%, Wales saw growth of 1.4% while Scotland saw rental prices increase by 0.3% in the 12 months to September 2017, according to the Index of Private Housing Rental Prices.
No actual monetary figures are provided, but the ONS says the largest annual rental price increases were in the east midlands at 2.9%, up from 2.8% in August.
This was followed by the south-east, where rental growth actually fell from 2.6% in August to 2.5% last month.
The lowest annual rental price increases were in the north-east, which was unchanged at 0.4% from August, followed by London, where the rate fell from 1.2% to 0.9% between August and September.
Rental inflation in the north-west was the next lowest, falling from 1.4% to 1.3% over the same period, while the rate of rental growth in Yorkshire & Humber declined from 1.7% to 1.6%.
