Transactions continue to slide across almost every part of UK

The latest Land Registry House Price Index shows sales volume for May fell in all English regions except the north-west and Yorkshire.

Activity was up year-on-year to May 2017 in the north-west to 8,014 sales, while Yorkshire & Humberside saw a small increase from 5,981 to 5,896 sales.

In Scotland, transactions went up from 7,248 in May last year to 8,241 this May.

The number of property transactions across the UK declined 0.5% annually to 74,982.

Annual price growth in July was 5.1%, with the average house price standing at £226,185, up 1.1% on a monthly basis.

The largest annual increase was in the east midlands at 7.5% to £184,676, while London was well behind at 2.8% despite average prices still being the highest at £488,729.

Meanwhile, separate data from Home.co.uk shows September’s listing prices are up 3.5% annually to £306,140.

Overall, says Home, time on the market has increased by three days over the last month to 87, while the total number of properties on the market in England and Wales is down 4% annually.
