Here is one agent that will have little difficulty distinguishing itself from others.
Setting out its stall as being the ‘go to’ place for a cup of coffee in Hertford, Go Move opened at the weekend as both an estate agency and a coffee shop.
Business owner Edward Casson said that the shop, which is close to the centre of Hertford, was packed all day Saturday – mostly with coffee drinkers, including many curious about the agency and some with property they were thinking of selling.
He said: “I think they found us very approachable. The shop was rammed with members of the public.”
He added. “The unit has been completely stripped out.
“We have built a coffee bar, which we have employed three baristas to run. We have built an estate agent bar too in the shop and there is a further part to the shop where you will find an office.
“There is a coffee bar menu like any other coffee shop and next to our estate agency bar you’ll find a menu (to comply with legislation) with the fees for our estate agent services in the same style as the coffee shop menu.
“On top of all of this, we have a large touch screen going in one of the large front windows and have also built a virtual reality room in our back office where we will be showing properties we are marketing for sale and rent, virtually through a headset.”
The new agency has Oliver Ingles as sales partner and Alex Chapman as lettings partner.
Go plans to open a further four similar agencies/coffee shops in the next three years.
Go are also developers, planners and architects building about 120 units a year, which will be sold though the agencies.
I expect the estate agency service to be like the coffee. Lukewarm and bitter.

What a great idea! I’m a surveyor and I’m always in & out of agents and now finally have somewhere to sit down for 5 minutes!

If this is ‘innovation’ then I wonder what you would call it when, a dozen or more years ago, an Agent by the name of Sanderson Young opened a similar arrangement here in deepest, darkest ‘oop North.
T’were never going to catch on, mind – there were neewhere to tie up thy whippets…
