Welcome to “Landlords’ Barometer #29”, dedicated to the Autumn Statement and how it will impact on the private rented sector.
1. The Autumn Statement from a landlord and property perspective
Chancellor George Osborne dropped a second tax bombshell in the Autumn Statement which resulted in the biggest-ever spike of traffic on Property Tribes in our 6 years of existence as landlords tried to make sense of the news of stamp duty hikes for BTL properties.
2. VIDEO: Reasons to be cheerful about the Autumn Statement for landlords
As always in property, there is a silver lining to any dark cloud. I am joined in this video by landlord Rupert Chapman to reveal the opportunities for landlords signposted by the Autumn Statement – and yes, there are plenty!
Please share this post with your landlord clients to reassure them that BTL is not dead – just evolving and becoming more professional.
3. I’m a landlord – get me outta here!
This post from landlord Paul Cummings is actually very pragmatic and positive and shows that many landlords see opportunity as competition is diminished.
4. VIDEO: Landlord of 43 years, Tony Altman, shares the secret of his success
Sheffield landlord, Tony Altman, is very vocal about the Autumn Statement. He believes that the Government intends to “exterminate the small private landlord”!
5. VIDEO – Douglas Haig of RLA Wales shares his views on Rent Smart Wales
RLA Wales are not happy with how Rent Smart Wales was introduced and that the fees involved only became known on the day of launch.
One thing is certain, the Autumn Statement, Summer Budget and increasing regulation have put BTL in the spotlight more than ever, and this has the positive impact of engaging our industry and creating awareness, which can only be a good thing in my book!
Exciting and challenging times ahead, but the latest net migration figures show that the PRS is desperately needed and will continue to thrive.
