Tributes have been paid following the death of Omagh estate agent and auctioneer Alan Porter, who has died at the age of 70.
Porter, who ran the long-established family firm William Porter and Sons Auctioneers and Estate Agents, passed away at his home in Knocksilla Park on 2 June following a lengthy illness.
A familiar figure in the local property market for decades, Porter took over the High Street business from his father and built a reputation as a trusted adviser in both residential and agricultural property sales. His name became closely associated with Omagh’s property sector and wider business community.
A service of thanksgiving for his life was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Omagh, followed by burial at Greenhill Cemetery.
Former clients, colleagues and friends have since paid tribute, recalling both his professionalism and his personal warmth. Many described him as a respected and approachable figure who was well known throughout the town.
Beyond his work in estate agency and auctioneering, Porter remained active in local life after retiring four years ago, regularly attending events at Omagh Accies Rugby Club and spending time with friends in the town. His passing has been met with sadness across the local community, where he was regarded as one of Omagh’s best-known property professionals.
