The ‘accidental’ estate agent shares her story with the two Russells

The two Russells, Russell Jervis and Russell Quirk, have released the latest episode of their engaging podcast, which features Amy Shields, formerly of Leaders Romans, and now commercial director at sector supplier Smart Compliance.

Estate agency and property industry career journeys are always interesting to hear. There are many tales of viewing assistant becoming MD and neg becoming branch manager. But this one is different.

Quirk and Jervis delve deeper into the life of Shields and in particular, sexuality. Why is this important in a podcast focussed upon the housing sector?

Reflecting on the interview, Quirk commented: “Whilst it’s always fascinating to chat to property people about their careers and their opinions on the industry, many have a deeper, more individual and sensitive story to tell about themselves.

“Amy Shields talks here about her ‘accidental’ move into estate agency and her rise to be the first Leaders Romans branch manager (what took them so long?). Then her change from agency to Commercial Director at sector supplier Smart Compliance.

“But then it gets personal… very.

“Amy discusses her sexuality and the realisation that she’s gay. ‘How did you know you were gay?’ we asked. ‘I knew as soon as I kissed a girl’ she says.

“From there Amy braves the coming out process, one which was admirably supported by her Leaders Romans boss at the time.

“But… her mum? Not so much.

“This is a deeply personal, at times emotional and inspirational story that Russell Jervis and I and Amy hope will support others that are in a similar place to that which Amy was at 21 years old.

“Buckle up.”

Jan, people are interested because Amy is really liked, admired and highly respected across the industry. It’s a different story with you…

        Spot on Mark!
Amy is highly respected and I for one find it really interesting to hear her back story, the challenges she has faced and how she has achieved what she has achieved.
        More stories like this please.

So you care about her sexuality because you think she is a good estate agent doing a low skilled admin job?
As for her being liked admired and hugely respected across “the industy “- that is rubbish I have never even heard of her and I am sure 99.99% of people in “the industry have not either”
I do not need anyone elses approval
I could not care less what some stranger thinks of me
I could not care less about anyone else’s sexuality
It does not interest me and I am not so self absorbed to assume the rest of the world is interested in in my own private life
