Well-established estate agency moves to independent ownership

Knight Frank in Harrogate has moved to independent ownership, a change that will see the launch of ‘North Residential’

After 15 years of successful occupation in Harrogate, estate agents Harlan Pollitt and Daniel Rigg have secured independent ownership of the business with a more autonomous mission to evolve and drive market share.

The directors of the Harrogate-based estate agency plan to expand into neighbouring towns and cities in order to increase market share.

The team, which is made up of those from the existing Harrogate office will continue to be located on Albert Street, with the office currently undergoing refurbishment.

Emma Kingham has been promoted to director, Harriet Cheshire has also become a director and Fiona Lippell, who has been with the business for over 15 years, remains office manager.

Whilst North Residential is becoming independent, the two agencies will maintain an amicable working relationship and occasionally continue to collaborate, according to Harlan Pollitt at North Residential.

Pollitt said: “We are excited to take this important step for the business which has established a strong reputation for its personalised service and proactive marketing approach. Whilst retaining our position as the leading estate agent in Harrogate, we have plans to invest considerably to expand into more regions over the next few years.

“We are thrilled that our existing, highly valued team, that have become known and respected within the local community over many years, will each have an incentive in helping to make it even more successful.

“North Residential will build upon an already well-established reputation as a highly experienced, honest, and reliable team that you can trust to find your ‘True North’ destiny.

“North Residential retains its existing clients and continues to grow market share with a strong depth of knowledge of the Harrogate housing market.”

Is it just me or is this the most sanitised announcement of a branch closure ever?  ‘KF withdraws from the north of England’ or ‘KF axes Harrogate branch’ is a little more in tune with the headlines used in the past.  With the greatest respect I don’t see many businesses moving on branches to the management team if they are that ‘successful’.

Knight Franks brand never meant much in Harrogate. The long established agents like Dacres dominate the market. Good luck to this team though. Harrogate remains the top location in the North of England with great schools, fab restaurants, high quality housing stock, etc and it’s very safe to live in. There are decent profits to be made for well run agencies.
