Well-known estate agent Peter Rollings, former MD of Foxtons, from 1997 to 2005, before becoming CEO of Marsh & Parsons in 2005, remaining in that position until 2016, talks to journalist Christopher Watkin about his estate agency story. You can watch the full interview below.
Rollings, who recently rejoined Foxtons as a non-executive director – a member of the Audit Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Nomination Committee – shares some useful tips and experiences, including what it takes to be a top estate agent, and why agency bosses should, like him, “feel good” when getting rid of people who, in his mind, are not particularly good estate agents.
Sacking people who are not deemed to be good agents is effectively “freeing them up to find their thing, and this [estate agency] isn’t there thing,” he said.
What does a corporate boss know about being a good Estate Agent? Knowing when to sack them apparently! The only thing the hierarchy of corporates know is how to protect their own & the equally oversized salaries & benefits of their directors. Their staff are there to be exploited, pure & simple. If you want to know what makes a good Estate Agent ask the owner of a successful Independant who really knows his staff and his clients & isn’t distantly trying to navigate a cumbersome money making machine to keep faceless shareholders happy. Corporate senior staff merely kick **** for a living.
