Here is one possible solution for landlords and agents stuck with void properties.
But is it something you would consider doing? Letting out properties as ‘stings’ for police?
South Yorkshire Police are looking for agents and landlords to participate in a scheme to help tackle burglaries in Sheffield.
Police say they are looking for empty properties that they can use as a ‘trap’ for would-be criminals.
This, they says, utilises part of the property on the ground floor with minimal disruption for landlords and agents.
In certain circumstances police say they are able to offer a ‘lay’ rent for a period used.
Any agent or landlord in the Sheffield area can email martin.simcock@southyorks.pnn.police.uk
Not a bad idea. We once used an empty house we had for sale for just this purpose. Unfortunately I set off the alarm on a viewing and ended up with blue flashing lights all over the place!

No doubt the letting agent will be responsible to check the burglars have a right to reside and if not the letting agent will be fined.

So the Police want to rent a room, leave all the doors and windows open to see if anyone robs it.

Under CPR’s, you must inform a prospective tenant of any issue which may reasonably affect their transactional making decision. 5 years in the nick may indeed impact on their decision, though their rent would of course be lower.

Maybe to catch rogue letting agents. Irony working it’s magic.
