Another ‘win a house’ promotion has been criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority, which received eight complaints about it.
The promotion was for a “millionaire mansion” complete with ten acres, a Rolls-Royce, golf course, swimming pool, fully stocked wine cellar and bar, staff for a year and bills paid for a year, plus £50,000 cash.
Nine other prizes of £10,000 each were also on offer.
Ogilvie Promotions charged £10 per ticket plus a 50p booking fee, and said there would be at least £100,000 in cash available if less than 500,000 tickets were sold.
Originally, the promotion should have closed last November 30, but a month beforehand Ogilvie informed entrants that it intended to exercise its contractual right to extend the competition to November 30, 2019.
When the ASA took this up with Ogilvie, it said it intended to close the competition on June 30 this year.
The ASA said that closing dates should not be changed. Extending the date would increase the number of entries to the competition and therefore decrease the changes of winning for those who had entered earlier.
It’s crazy… I don’t think I have seen any of these competitions honour the prize. Never enough tickets sell and the owners stay put, it’s a complete shambles! See this article from a couple of weeks ago:
