View of North Circular, anyone? House in Neasden sells for ‘bonkers’ price

An auction room broke into spontaneous applause when an unremarkable looking three-bed detached house in Neasden sold after a fierce bidding war.

The property, needing total modernisation, had a guide price of £475,000 when going under the hammer at Auction House London’s latest sale.

After bidding which went on for some 20 minutes, the hammer was brought down at £868,000 – presumably proving that the North Circular is seen as a big attraction by purchasers.*

The sale on Tuesday raised over £25m in total, setting a new record.

Meanwhile Network Auctions – which also works with estate agents – also reported good results from its latest auction in London.

The sale raised £6.4m, achieving a success rate of 76% from its 22 lots.

* Historical note: Neasden is not only finely set on the North Circular, but is also the spiritual home of Sid and Doris Bonkers, and the ashen-faced Ron Knee, fans and manager respectively of Neasden FC as featured in Private Eye.

“The property features two lateral, bubble shaped bays, a bubbled arch to the entrance and is located conveniently in the middle of a bubble, bubble, bubble…”
