Labour’s Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq is reportedly under investigation by Parliament’s standards watchdog over alleged failure to register rental income from a London property.
Siddiq, who is the economic secretary to the Treasury and MP for Hampstead and Highgate, is being scrutinised for the late registration of interests, according to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner’s website.
The investigation follows a probe by the Mail on Sunday, which claimed Siddiq had not declared income from a London rental property for over a year.
A Labour Party spokesperson described the omission as an “administrative oversight” for which Siddiq had apologised.
“Tulip will cooperate fully with the Parliamentary Commissioner on Standards on this matter,” the spokesperson said.
This inquiry makes Siddiq the first MP of the new Parliament to be investigated by the Standards Commissioner.
The Labour Party confirmed that the issue was reported to the Commons registrar as soon as it was identified, and that Siddiq expressed regret for the oversight.
Apologises only after being caught out.
