Today on Property Industry Eye is ‘#FlorenceDay’.
We ask every reader who visits EYE today to donate a minimum of £5 to the crowdfunding effort to raise £250,000 needed to take desperately ill two-year-old Florence Jackson to America for a potentially life-saving operation.
Florence is the daughter of estate agent Rodney Jackson, a negotiator at Proctors in West Wickham, Kent.
Florence has a rare cancer, neuroblastama, and has endured 20 rounds of chemotherapy, major surgery, a stem cell transplant, five weeks of radiotherapy, and immunotherapy which should have finished her treatment.
Sadly, however, scans in November and this month show that the tumour has spread.
Doctors in this country have told her parents they cannot remove the tumour.
However, Rod and his wife Carolyn have found a surgeon in New York with a strong track record in successfully operating on patients like Florence.
Time is not on the family’s side and they urgently need £250,000 to take their little daughter to America for the operation.
A Just Giving appeal has raised an extraordinary amount of money – by yesterday afternoon, over 5,000 people, mostly strangers and including our own big-hearted readers, had chipped in more than £115,000.
EYE ourselves yesterday contributed £500. All three of the directors have children, and two of us also have small grandchildren.
Yesterday afternoon, Proctors described our readers’ response as “amazing”.
A spokesperson for the West Wickham branch where dad Rodney works said: “Thank you again and all your readers!
“Go #FlorenceDay !”

The total now stands at just over £125,000.00, half of the required amount. I muddle along with social media but have (somehow) managed to tweet this story. Now going to try to do something similar on Facebook. It has taken me less than five minutes.I won’t spend another five minutes today doing anything nearly as worthwhile. Everything is crossed that this little girl gets the help she needs.

Just look at that huge smile on the face of a little girl who has endured so much. This story really touched me. If the government were to match pound for pound the amount raised… the target would be reached now, and Florence would be on her way to a chance of more life. It would be a small price for a rich country to pay. However, as that is unlikely to happen, let’s do what we can. One suggestion….I told my teenage daughters and the story has now gone almost viral amongst their schoolmates…..I don’t know how much it will raise……but lots of small amounts from ‘pocket money sacrifice’ will help as well.
Go Flo!

Hundreds of you have donated already this morning – and even Rightmove have chipped in. Well done everybody – let’s keep it going.
Would you all please tweet this story with the hashtag #FlorenceDay so that word spreads beyond the industry. And get it out via your Facebook pages.
As of just now the funding is at £132,170 which is 52% of what is needed. There’s a long way still to go but they are past the halfway stage.
Dig deep folks!

Been out on appointments so only just seen this, donation’s a no brainer.
If PIE subscribers can spend time in a busy working day to whinge about OTM, have a pop at online agents/traditional agents (delete as appropriate), get exercised about this week’s ‘game changer’ or ‘disruptor’, rejoice or commiserate with Countrywide’s predicament et al surely you can spend a couple of minutes to use your brain and digits in a far more useful way?
It’s the price of a sandwich and coffee for lunch . . go on, finish the week doing something for someone else!!
