Three charities working with homeless people have received grants from the Deposit Protection Service – the first from its Charity Donations Fund.

Altogether £20,000 has been distributed.

The 700 Club in Darlington received £7,500 and £5,000 was given to the Sanctuary Trust in Manchester (pictured). A further £7,500 went to The Homesavers Charity in Liverpool.

Donations are awarded quarterly with a total pot of £20,000 is to be made available each time.

DPS director Kevin Firth said: “We’re passionate about making it easier for vulnerable people to gain access to quality long-term rental properties – and working with local housing charities is the ideal way to help with this.”

Housing-related charities can apply for funds via the DPS website, and applications for the second round of awards need to be submitted by the end of this month.
