Is it a beach hut? No. Although it looks a bit like one.
Is it an answer to a housing crisis? Well, just possibly.
And is it a clever invention? Undoubtedly – and it’s British (hooray!)
It’s a house that is factory assembled, can be put on a lorry, placed on site – and is ready in ten minutes, which could be very useful in areas where people have been made homeless by floods and earthquakes, not to mention the UK where local authorities are running out of ideas as to where to house people.
The pop-up home expands as it unfolds to three times its original size, and although the prototype makes the models look a bit samey, they can be customised.
Designed and built in the UK by Ten Fold Engineering, they’re being marketed in the US for $130,000 – or about £99,000.
It gives a whole new meaning to the term proptech – and honestly, it’s brilliant.
There’s a very short video to be seen at the link below.
Love it……let’s hope it helps lots of people.

As the design permits moving and folding I can foresee big air leakage issues.

Brilliant! How many of these could you supply for two billion pounds and go a long way towards shortening the social housing waiting list. Any area, any ground and ultimately moveable and re-usable.
