The way they were…

Another brave soul steps into the limelight of our occasional series depicting the ravages (or not) of time.

Looking the very picture of elegance in smart suit and tie is young Mark Newton in a 1984 publicity photo for the opening of Black Horse Agencies Frank Innes in Grantham.

Grantham’s most famous daughter, Margaret Thatcher, reigned as Prime Minister; Band Aid rocked the world to save starving Ethiopians; the Miners’ Strike was under way; the original Apple Mac computer went on sale at $2,500; the pound note disappeared from circulation; and Mark cultivated a fine Tom Selleck-style ‘tashe.

Young Mr Newton was destined for a glittering career in agency but would not have to travel very far from his roots. Today he is still based in Grantham, as Chairman of Newton Fallowell and Executive Director of Belvoir PLC, still looking relaxed and still smiling after all these years. Only the hair has suffered. As usual.

Let us see  your ‘then and now’ pictures. The only criteria is that the old photo was taken before the year 2000.

Send it to news@propertyindustryeye.com along with a shot of how you look today, your name, and the company you now work in.

That’s a seriously amazing ‘tashe. Apple Macs have hardly changed in price.
