Thank you to our generous readers – £800 raised in Julian O’Dell charity auction

Our thanks to those who took part in this week’s charity auction to buy an original portrait by Julian O’Dell, with proceeds going to Action Against Cancer.

The winning bid of £275 came from Guy Hollamby, of London firm Symington Elvery. Guy generously topped the bid up to £300 after the auction ended

The auction was part of Julian’s annual Catfest event, which raises money for cancer charities, and which is named after his wife who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Guy has chosen the Johnny Cash drawing, and said: “I am absolutely delighted that, by bidding cash for Cash, Symington Elvery has been able to support a very good cause and to also acquire a superb portrait of a truly iconic artist.

“We hope that Catfest 2017 will be the most successful yet, and look forward to supporting again in the future.”

The “under-bidder” Karen Blight, of next2buy in Tyne and Wear, has bought the Elvis Costello portrait for £300.

She said: “I’m delighted with my purchase. I’m disappointed to have missed out on the original lot, but happy to help a great cause.”

A third portrait, of Elvis Presley, sold for £200 to Mike Ellis, of EllisWinters in March, Cambridgeshire.

He said: “Being a typical estate agent I tried to haggle over Julian’s sketch of Elvis, but he wasn’t having any of it.

“It’s for my mum’s birthday and I’m hoping it’s a shrewd investment and will go up in value!

“I’ve known Julian and Cat for more years than I care to remember, from the old Ekins Dilley and Handley days.

“He was the lister when I first started in 1984. He was the better lister but I beat him at pool all the time.

“I know this charity is very close to their hearts and I’m happy to contribute in some small way.”

Altogether the EYE auction has raised £800 – which is brilliant news.

Julian and Cat are immensely grateful.
