Uniplaces, a student accommodation portal, is rolling out a new rental guarantee service in the UK and across Europe.
It will allow the company to act as a local guarantor for international students.
As such, students arriving in the UK for the first time will no longer need to pay big upfront instalments or rely on a local guarantor, which is often difficult to find.
Uniplaces said that with this guarantee, it aims to streamline the market by removing a major obstacle to student mobility.
The guarantee will also ensure that eligible landlords do not lose money in the event that a tenant leaves before the date stipulated on the contract.
Uniplaces will cover landlords’ monthly rent until a new tenant is found.
Co-founder Ben Grech said: “This is a huge plus point in students’ favour, and puts paid to that frequent but erroneous assumption that renting to them is a risky business.
“It will make their life much easier when they’re looking for student accommodation.”
He claimed: “It’s never been done before. No company out there is doing – or has even tried – putting a guarantee like this in place.
“It’s a really exciting project for us.”
