The National Auction Analysis for September 2024 shows a strong recovery in the UK property auction market as activity picks up following the summer break.
The latest data from the Essential Information Group (EIG), which maintains a database of virtually every property coming up for sale at auction, shows lots offered increased by 8.7% compared to last year, with 4,538 lots offered and 3,243 sold, a 9% rise.
Total funds raised increased by 19.9% to £687.7m, reflecting renewed market momentum. The residential sector performed particularly well, with a 9.3% increase in lots offered and a 24% jump in total raised, while the commercial sector showed slower growth.
EIG’s David Sandeman explained that overall, the post-summer recovery has brought strong gains in key regions, particularly in London and the North-East, where heightened activity and rising values reflect robust demand.
“While some regions like Scotland continue to face challenges, the broader market outlook remains positive, especially as residential auctions drive much of the growth. As we move further into the year, this renewed momentum sets a promising tone for the months ahead,” he said.
