Solicitor working at estate agency pleads guilty to embezzlement

A solicitor who worked in a Scottish estate agency and legal firm has admitted embezzling £13,000 of clients’ money.

Steven Crommie, 37, took the money between 2013 and 2014 while working at Bell Park Kerridge in Dumfries.

The court heard that a member of staff had noted that Crommie was taking cash from clients, prompting an internal investigation.

Some clients had thought it strange that they had been asked for cash. In one case, money had been taken for Stamp Duty Land Tax but not paid over.

Dumfries Sheriff Court heard that all the clients had been compensated in full.

Sentencing is due next month.
