SmartProp blames clerical error for mistakes at launch of new property portal

Property portal SmartProp has insisted a “clerical error” resulted in Rightmove’s company number being displayed on the newly launched website.

A statement from SmartProp – which offers agency listings at £4.95 a month – said there is a team of experienced agency website and software developers behind the brand.

SmartProp told EYE: “SmartProp displays its correct company number alongside all other details on the portal.

“There was a clerical error where the incorrect documents were sent rather than the edited version. Hence displaying Rightmove details from a document which was used as an example.”

It had also previously featured listings from a supposed agency called Butler and Stag, which was unrelated to the actual brand of the same name.

The statement said: “Property listings visible on the website were there to illustrate the quality of the product.

“We are not trying to be Rightmove but will offer a similar service which is much more affordable.

“We imagine property professionals being able to look past this clerical error and judge the site by the product quality. We are confident that agents will not be disappointed.”

The statement said listings will be priced at £4.95 a month and may only be adjusted with inflation.

Was this “statement” printed on bog-roll by any chance?

The colour and smell of its’ content would certainly indicate that to be the case…

Still no removal of the Zoopla logo, I note.

They want to be careful – the portal’s counsel are currently at DEFCON 2.736…

We imagine property professionals being able to look past this clerical error and  judge the site by the product quality.  We are confident that agents will not be disappointed.  If you are an agent who envisages a future paying £4.95 rather than £100s per month to list properties come and try out the service.  Join a portal where profit is not the foremost objective.  Unlimited listings £4.95 for life*. ”
*Price will never be increased but only adjusted in line with inflation
