Short-lets firm goes quiet as bank’s fraud department alerted

Mystery continues to surround the company that has been trading as London Short Let Flats.

Yesterday, its website was no longer available. When Eye tried to make contact, the phone line was apparently dead when our previous attempts to call simply went through to voicemail.

It has also emerged that London Short Let Flats is being investigated by the organisation Scamwarners.

Scamwarners said that the website – www.londonshortflats.co.uk – “appears to be a fake site”.

An undercover member of the Scamwarners team – an entirely self-funded organisation which has been in existence some seven years – told Eye that it posed as someone interested in renting a property.

They received back an email from the booking manager at The Home Lettings Centre Limited, Kymberley Road, Harrow. The email gave the banking details of a UK bank for payment.

Scamwarners has now alerted the bank’s fraud department.

A spokesperson for Scamwarners said: “Two other sites have been identified using the same telephone numbers and are in the process of being reported to their web hosts.”

There is a warning on the NALS website about London Short Let Flats and two others. NALS has reported it to Action Fraud and Trading Standards.

It has also been reported to Trading Standards by the Property Ombudsman.

Eye first reported it here
