Salisbury-based agent acquires local rival

Ewemove in Salisbury has expanded after acquiring local rival Martin & Co.

James and Malcolm White, directors of EweMove Salisbury, have purchased the portfolio of Martin & Co in Salisbury.

The deal will see EweMove take over the Martin & Co office on Castle Street and its portfolio of more than 150 managed properties on top of its existing lettings business.

The two Martin & Co team members, Chris McNiven and Jodie Ford, have also been retained.

Malcolm White said: “Having launched EweMove in 2016, the business has enjoyed lots of successes from a standing start and we’ve helped lots of local buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants.”

“But to see the business grow in this way is hugely exciting – particularly as Martin & Co is an agency with such an established reputation in the area.

“Our EweMove business is very much based on a genuine passion for property and an absolute commitment to customer care. We’re hugely excited about the year ahead and look forward to helping more people locally with their property plans.”

Well maybe a local rival but  not quite as both franchises operate under The  Property Franchise Group umbrella. There has been  quite a lot of inter-changeability between the 2 especially when some areas aren’t performing  particularly well

In some cases franchisees wearing both hats.

For example, Ewemove Doncaster South packed up late 2019 after incurring worrying debts .Up popped Ewemove Doncaster North to fill the void run by no other than Jo Mundy, the Martins Doncaster Branch Director .
However that doesn’t seem to have  worked out well either as Ewemove Doncaster North  has recently folded.

Perhaps we will see a Ewemove Doncaster East emerge soon ?.

On a more positive note good to see some of the Ewemove branches work themselves out of the lockdowns invigorated .Melton Mowbray  enjoying a brisk Autumn

No New Years resolutions after all? Shame.
I admire your skill at turning good news for a hard working business into a doomfest. Of course only after having a glance at CH, naturally!

Well done to the Winchester and Salisbury team lead by James and Malcolm White for a successful acquisition.

One of the benefits of working with TPFG and having the backing of a sound, multi-brand PLC behind you is that franchisees can operate under a choice of brands.

As Jo Mundy found having first started her franchised business with EweMove, having no prior estate agency experience.  She built it up successfully which gave her the foundation to buy out the local Martin & Co franchise in Doncaster, which she then continued to operate as M&Co, through her choice and the fact that the business had an established High Street presence, which made sense to retain in that instance.

We have seen other EweMove operators build up a successful business and then go on to buy out those who seek to sell their business and realise the great asset value they’ve built up, by leveraging everything TPFG has to offer.  Some continue as EweMove, some continue as a traditional brand. And vice versa too where some traditional franchisees seek to operate a more ‘personal agency’ model through EweMove as opposed to a traditional High Street outlet.

Having such options is a real asset for everyone in our group and allows business-owning franchisees to leverage their skills in the environment they feel most comfortable with.

Spin these stories anyway you like but don’t let any unfortunate  facts get in the way of a good story .
It really does nobody any favours giving the image of the grass being  greener

So  the situation in Doncaster is that Ewemove Doncaster South  failed The franchisee left with  a crippling debt ,a deficit of just under £100k showing at Companies House .

.Jo Mundy already running Ewemove Doncaster  North  became the sole franchisee for Doncaster.
However then  several months later after the demise of Ewemove Doncaster South  Ewemove  Doncaster North   franchise  closed too leaving  the town unrepresented.

How is that a success story for Ewemove?

in addition looking at the accounts for Ewemove Doncaster North franchise  they show a deficit which has increased substantially too?

Good luck to the franchisee at Salisbury .However a quick glance at Companies  House show the company has a 6 figure deficit  which has increased substantially before this  acquistion
