The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has updated its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework and introduced a new member app to help members track their CPD and professional status.
The revised framework uses an outcomes-based approach, covering areas such as artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability, and changes in client requirements.
A global consultation with members highlighted the need for surveyors to develop skills in technology and legislation that were not in place when many originally qualified, including AI-based valuation tools, net zero building assessments, and climate risk analysis.
The updated CPD framework is designed to support professional standards and accountability by allowing members to record how their learning applies to their work and responsibilities. CPD helps members meet their obligations to clients, communities, and the public.
RICS has also released a new Member App for Android and Apple devices. The app allows members to log and track CPD, manage their professional profile using a digital ID, and receive reminders related to professional requirements.
Christine O’Rourke, RICS director of professional standards, said: “RICS professionals are trusted to give the public and their clients accurate, up-to-date advice, and that trust depends on our members staying current as the industry evolves.
“Whether it’s understanding how climate risks affect property values, applying new regulations, or using emerging technologies responsibly, surveyors need to keep learning throughout their careers – it’s about demonstrating you have the relevant expertise to serve your clients and protect the public properly.
“The response to our consultation showed members understand this responsibility. They want a system that helps them stay sharp and responsive to change, because they know the public deserves nothing less from a chartered professional.”
