Retirement community developer McCarthy Stone has signed a deal with Pod Point for the supply and installation of electric vehicle charge points at every parking space in its new developments over the next three years.
The agreement will also extend to McCarthy Stone’s existing residential and workplace sites that require the retrofitting of EV charge points.
The firm’s partnership with Pod Point follows updates to building regulations mandating EV charging points in all new-build properties in England. The regulations came into force in June 2022, stipulating that new residential developments must have one 7kW charge point per every resident with a parking space.
Recent research conducted by McCarthy Stone found more than four in 10 of over-65s look for an EV charging point when considering a move to a new property.
Anne Smales, group commercial director at McCarthy Stone, emphasised the company’s commitment to reducing energy use and carbon emissions in its existing and future estates, and across its business. “In Pod Point, we have found a partner who in terms of its reputation and track record, we feel is well placed to support our sustainability goals and to help us deliver great and sustainable places for our customers to live,” she said.
Erik Fairbairn, CEO of Pod Point, commented: “McCarthy Stone has an outstanding reputation in the industry and its sustained five-star customer satisfaction status from the Home Builders Federation is testament to that. We were delighted to be selected as their preferred charge point supplier.”
